6126 Saint Moritz in Caruth Terrace Dallas holds a special place in my heart. It was the first stage I completed after registering Comfort Is Created as an official business in the great state of Texas. Mama, we made it!

We’ve spent countless hours assembling furniture on its newly finished hardwood floors (thanks to the fabulous Sarah Drawert of Renovation Sells), soaking in sunlight pouring through the windows, softened by shade from the mature trees surrounding the home. It’s a lovely, peaceful retreat — and yet, it’s one block from Mockingbird Lane and, by extension, all that east Dallas has to offer. Neighbor and listing agent Kevin Sayre shares insight into the charming home in Caruth Terrace — one of the most sought-after east Dallas neighborhoods.

What do you enjoy about living in Caruth Terrace Dallas?

Where to start? The location within east Dallas can’t be beat. White Rock Lake, SMU, Greenville Avenue, Love Field Airport, NorthPark shopping center, Central Market, and Fair Park are all just a few minutes away by car, bike or foot! Then there is the vibe of Caruth Terrace itself. Most of the architecture is original, from the 1940s and 1950s. The houses don’t overwhelm the lots they sit on. They have front porches and generous backyards, and the mature trees add another layer of charm. At any given time, people are out pushing strollers, walking their dogs, and mingling with other neighbors, whose names they actually know. It feels like a small town — sort of an oasis in the midst of the big city!

Describe what a typical weekend might look like for someone living in Caruth Terrace Dallas.

A typical weekend? It depends. There is SO much to do in east Dallas neighborhoods. It would probably start with a bike ride around White Rock Lake. If I’m feeling ambitious, I’ll go around twice. It's about ten miles around and the scenery is amazing! As a reward I might treat myself to lunch at the Burger House on Mockingbird Lane. It’s an institution. I’ll most likely have a Double Double, fries and a chocolate shake. The short walk home will make me feel less guilty about the shake. If it's football season and the SMU Ponies are in town, taking in a game at Ford Field is a blast. The Bush Library is also a great option. The evening may very well be spent listening to live music somewhere on Greenville Avenue.

What is your favorite spot in the house? Why?

Boy that’s a tough one! Kind of like asking which child is your favorite. I love them all, for different reasons. If I had to pick just one, it’d probably be the Florida Room. The day always begins with coffee and the newspaper right there. Something about the way the light filters through the trees and the shutters feels just right. It’s so quiet and peaceful. I love the kitchen too, especially when I entertain. I can keep my eye on everybody!

How would you describe the neighborhood?

Caruth Terrace is welcoming. The houses are modest, understated, and well cared for. There are mature shade trees everywhere. Neighbors know and care for each other. It’s got a small-town feel with big city amenities. What more could you ask for?

What are your favorite local restaurants?

Seems like every week I have a new “favorite restaurant”. I tend to lean toward more casual dining. The aforementioned Burger House on Mockingbird is a favorite. Campisi’s is an institution. Dream Café is a great weekend brunch spot. When I crave Mexican, Desperados on Greenville is a no brainer. If I’m feeling a little more upscale, Hudson House never disappoints. Also looking forward to walking to Birdie’s Eastside, which opens this fall!
